About Northwind

Northwind is a small but growing collection of vintage aircraft, mainly from the World War 2 era. At Northwind we are passionate about old aircraft and telling the stories of brave and courageous men and women who fought for our freedom, many of whom gave the ultimate sacrifice. It is important to us that these stories live on and are told to future generations so that we may honour this debt to our forebears and hopefully learn a better way.

Our founder

Northwind was founded by Isabel Rutland. Isabel took up flying after a career in the city. Isabel flies many different types including the p51 Mustang, the T-6 Texan and various models of the aerobatics aircraft—the Pitts Special. Isabel is a professional display pilot. Isabel was the 2023 Standard National Aerobatics Champion and she was also the Tiger Trophy Champion for best aerobatic performance at all levels in the same year. In addition to flying old aircraft and aerobatic aircraft, Isabel is a Cirrus Standardised Instructor Pilot (CSIP). Isabel regularly flies from Wycombe Air Park and Duxford.
